What is a heatmap?
With the help of Heatmaps, you can see how users behave on your website and where they click (or don't click).
Below you can see which elements users interact most often, least often, and which they do not interact with at all.
Each circle and each element of a certain color is a cluster of clicks from different users.
At the top of the page, you can view the number of visits to the page.
To determine the interaction intensity, there is a color scale that shows that the closer the hue is to the blue, the more seldom people click on the element. And the more close to red the color of the circle, the more often users click there.
You can also view the list of user sessions that Creabl managed to record. In order to see more details, you need to click on the Play button.
Note: The click map is built on the basis of recorded sessions. There is difference between the number of recorded sessions and the number of pageviews because not every user visit can be recorded. This can happen when the user's session is too short, there is a ban on recording cookies, there are browser plug-ins that prohibit recording the session, etc.
How to create a heatmap?
In order to create a heatmap, you need to click on the Create heatmap button.
In the New heatmap field, we set the name.
The first setting is Number of pageviews. This parameter determines how many sessions pageviews with clicks will be recorded.
Available settings: 1000, 5000 or 10000 pageviews. You can always edit this parameter later.
Next, select Visit a specific page and enter the URL. Visits and clicks of the entered page will be tracked and mapped.
The Exclude items from heatmap option gives the possibility to exclude elements whose clicks you do not want to see on the heatmap.
For example, you know that you have an advertising banner in a certain place. You can enter CSS selectors, and clicks on this area will not be tracked.
If you want to overlay the map on some other screenshot, you can insert a link, and instead of the page that the user visited for the first time, your screenshot will be displayed.
To complete the creation of the heatmap, click Create heatmap.
The new heatmap is automatically added on top of the heatmap list. In the list, you can see the name and status, the date of creation, and how many views of the page specified in the settings there have already been.
To pause the recording, click on the In progress status, and data collection will be automatically paused.
To edit the heatmap, for example, to change the number of views, click on the additional menu and click Edit.
You can also find your heatmap in the Overview section under Analytics. In the upper right block, there is a summary of the last five maps. You can see how many people have already viewed your page, and change the status of the map.
If you want to see the entire list of heatmaps, click on the All heatmaps button or go to the Heatmaps section in the left menu.
